Giveaway #2 ~ Jotham’s Journey
This Giveaway is now CLOSED!
Arnold Ytreeide, author of the Jotham’s Journey trilogy, has donated a copy of Jotham’s Journey and also Bartholomew’s Passage for two of my readers! Please read through for the complete details on this great giveaway!
Last year our family was introduced to a wonderful advent book for families, called Jotham’s Journey. The book had originally been published years ago and gone out of print ~ until last year when the series began to be republished. There are three books in the Advent trilogy and each book is written in a devotional style for families to sit down together and read a bit of the suspenseful story each day and then finish with a short devotional story. The books can be read in a 3 year cycle, each one telling a story from a different child’s perspective, but resulting in the same thing ~ an exciting retelling of the Christmas story.
I will admit that I get pulled into the story {and even read ahead!!}. The stories are targeted for children ages 9-12, but we started reading them last year with our girls {ages 6 and 7} and they LOVED them. This year as we’ve been reading the second book in the series, Bartholomew’s Passage, they are remembering the characters from the book last year and beginning to see how they all fit together.
Jotham’s Journey
The first book in the series follows Jotham, a ten year old boy, as he searches for his family after he had run away in anger. During his trip to find his family, Jotham is helped by many different people and makes many new friends, ultimately bringing him to Bethlehem during the height of the census time.
Bartholomew’s Passage
The second book in the series follows the story of Bartholomew after his town is raided by Roman soldiers and he is sold as a slave. He is rescued by a Fool and begins an exciting travel that leads him to Bethlehem…I’d tell you more, but we’re in the midst of reading this one!!
Tabitha’s Travels
This last book in the trilogy focuses on Tabitha and is scheduled to be re-released in the Summer/Fall of 2010. Jotham meets Tabitha in his travels and this book tells the story from her perspective. {We can’t wait for this one either!}.
Note: While older children may be okay with some of the content, there are some situations in the stories that are a little more intense for younger listeners. When reading to our kids, I would either pre-read or scan the stories, editing out anything that was too much for them at the time.
The Giveaway!!
Arnold Ytreeide has donated two different books ~ Jotham’s Journey and Bartholomew’s Passage and I will draw a winner for each of the titles. There are several ways for you to enter this giveaway, but there is one mandatory first entry: leave a comment here letting me know if your family celebrates Advent together or if you have any traditions for Advent {it’s okay if you don’t!!}.
Note: US Residents only, please!
If you would like to earn extra entries {you can earn 2 extra entries}, leave a comment for each of the following:
- If you are a subscriber to my blog, give yourself an extra entry! Thanks so much! If you don’t subscribe, hop on board and leave a comment. :)
- Head over to the JerichoQuill site and find out what the special family Easter adventure is ~ come back here and leave a comment letting me know what it is! {it’s one that I am keeping an eye out for since it hasn’t been released yet!}
This giveaway will be open until Monday, December 14th until 8pm and I will announce the winner by Wednesday, December 16th. Please be sure there is a way for me to contact you ~ otherwise I will draw another winner.

We don't have any set traditions. Growing up my parents never told us about advent.. Christmas was mostly about Santa Claus. However, Tim and I have been discussing what to do in the future for advent. These books sound like so much fun!

This is our first year to celebrate Advent with our 2 year old. We light candles (which he loves to put out with a candle snuffer ;), we do our Jesus tree devotional (he puts the ornaments up on a tree in his room), each day he puts a piece of yarn in a manger to make a soft bed for baby Jesus, and he gets to open a drawer to find a magnetic nativity piece on our advent calendar. He loves it!

We have an advent calendar which we 'stuff' each year with a mixture of chocolates and notes about Christmas related things we're going to do that day. We also have an advent candle that we light each day. We also read and reread the story of Christmas in various different books we have. In years to come I am planning on reading the trilogy you are talking about - my boys are a little young as yet.

Our children are 3 and 1. We do celebrate advent with them, but our traditions are still being refined each year. This year we have an "advent tree." Our 3 yr. old pulls the number off the tree according to the number of days left util Christmas. On the strip it has a Scripture passage to read, a Christmas book to read, and a fun activity to do together.

This year is the first year of doing an Advent activity. We are doing the Jesse Tree. We painted a large tree and are sticking scripture and the coordinating symbols to it, I'll probably post about it. My kids seem to enjoy the activity. A little game I play with my oldest (I start reading the scripture reference and my son guesses the who, what and where it is in the Bible).
I'm trying to gather more books and other material that are faith based for our home, seeing as God's only been a part of our lives for about 6 years. This book would be great to win.

The Mystery of Temple Court looks great! It would be wonderful for our family, as we are currently reading Jotham's Journey :). That, by the way, is one of our traditions during Advent! We also enjoy Adornaments during the season, always completing the last one on Christmas morning. Thanks for the fun giveaway!

I guess what I also forgot to mention that since we are currently reading Jotham's Journey this year, it would be fun to win Bartholomew's Passage for next year :).

This is the first year that we've done much with Advent. Guess what we're reading? Jotham's Journey! :)
I started reading it the first few nights to the boys, but now Jeff has taken over and reads it to them because HE likes it so much. :)
I'd love to get my hands on a copy of the second book in the series. ;)

we dont' do anything for advent right now, but a lady in my small group told us about this book and how it's been great in her family this year (the jothan's journey book). i bought one as a christmas gift for my sister-in-law...which i can hopefully borrow in future years!

We've got a little Jesse tree; each day we read a short devotion, color a related page, and hang up an ornament. And I've got a Christmas book to unwrap each day, too.
These books sound like they'd be a great addition to our tradition!

We celebrate the birth of Christ throughout the Christmas season. I haven't done it as celebrating advent, but think that I would like to try that next year.

we don't have any traditions...yet, but these books look wonderful. My oldest is 7 and has just discovered the joy of reading and he would absolutely love these.

Every night at 7:30 during Advent, we sit down as a family and do an Advent devotion and then the kids get to have the chocolate out of their Advent Calendar. It's something fun we look forward to every year!

We do celebrate Advent, but we haven't found a book we love to use with our small children yet.
