Preschool Corner ~ Trying to Plan

Since convention last week I’ve been laying out our upcoming year in my head and on paper and do you want to know something?

I’m feeling at a complete loss on what I’m going to do with Kaleb next year.

Obviously, I like to plan. There are ideas spinning around in my head, but I have yet to find a means to quickly get all those ideas into print form…and see if they are actually REAL ideas or bunny trails {because I’m famous for those too}.

I have plenty of things on file to do, but for some reason I feel the need to do something new ~ just for him. In many ways {and I’m just laying it all out for you here}, he truly gets the short end of the proverbial stick.

So I’m sitting. And thinking. And praying. Knowing that soon enough it will fall into place…I just need to stop getting ahead of myself and enjoy the fun and relaxing that we are doing right now.

Have you started making plans for next year yet? What do you have in store for your preschooler and/or kindergartener?

  • I'm also in the midst of planning out our school year. I will be doing Abeka 5K with my 5 year old and the Preschool curriculum that Erica over at Confessions of a Homeschooler has put together, with my 4 year old. This is our first year homeschooling, so I'm building my collection of fun games, activities, etc to keep learning hands-on and fun for everyone!

  • I am just finishing planning for our "official" preschool year - starting in August. I plan on posting my curriculum and subject list soon..maybe by next week...I am tweaking it right now. I know how you feel with so many ideas swirling around :) I am doing a combo of ideas that I have found on Confessions of a Homeschooler, a few other blogs and some I have come up with myself... and then I am going to hope for the best! :) (that's all we can ever do anyway, right? )

  • I am in the exact same place right now too. I could have posted those same words. This school year, I will be doing preschool with my 4th child and I feel the need to "change it up". I don't know if I need that more for her or for me!

  • Only have one - but I can relate to that spinning thing!

  • My preschooler is going to be doing the letter of the week curriculum. I've kind of combined ideas from confessions of a homeschooler and home grown hearts. I'm really excited for it, and it includes some math concepts as well! But then, this will only be my second year homeschooling so simple is good.

  • Oh, I do know what you mean about lots in this post. You are right, you do need to relax and enjoy and it will surely all fall into place! Wishing you peace of mind in all areas.

  • We changed to year-round this month, I ordered everything, thought it was all perfect, and have already sent a bunch back. I have 6 children, and felt too public school...I am currently taking a step back, and looking at the Weaver Curriculum. I pray this is what we have been looking for.

  • I totally goofed and linked to my blog instead of the blog post! I'll get it right one day! We just started preparing for Pre-K, and it looks like it is going to be fun!

  • Just like you, I at times feel at a loss. I was praying and thinking...praying and thinking...and for my 3 year-old twins I'm going to go through the alphabet, a letter a week, and teach them the sounds each letter makes; read books and do activities that have to do with that letter; work on cutting and coloring neatly; following directions exactly. If I can do just those things, I think I'll be in good shape!!!

  • Haha, you sound just like me!! Especially after coming home from a convention with lots of great finds ;) But i think its great we are trying to figure it out now. It gives us something to work on all summer and if we get lots figured out and planned (buy a notebook and start jotting ideas!) it will get us so much more excited for next year!

  • I have not completely decided how next year is going to look either. I have several ideas, and some things we will just be continuing because we are happy with them, like Maths-U-See and Hand Writing Without Tears, but I have lots of other ideas swirling around. Sometimes I think, not being able to go to conventions is a good thing for me, because I have a tendency to want to do EVERYTHING...hmmm, I still want to go to one though! ;)

  • ha, I was going to say 'don't fix what isn't broken' =) and just apply what you already wonderfully do here...then you can focus on time & quality for him...but I too, am having to switch it up this year. I have, for years, just done a letter per week, etc (with the already listed names here ;^) and aiming at fun themes; but my kinder this year drums to a different beat and throws all rhythm out my band door, so I plan on following his parade! =) now my 2 yr old tot will still basically do what I know best, a letter per week theme... can anyone say "juggle"
